Money Money Money

For the project Module Madness I had to change what I was creating because my first idea wasn't working out the way I planned. So I switched to paper money and made a money tree.
It's not quit finished yet I'm currently working on the base and making a few minor detail changes to make it perfect.

Almost Final Dots

It took time
but I mangaed to do a decent job on my dots, I think. Here are my four final dots on black card stock paper.

And out of these four final dot patterns we had to choose one for text is texture. I chose the circle one. I made a texture for it and this is the finished product.

10 text is texture

For this project I had a hard time deciding which dot pattern I wanted to use and then I had an idea brought to me by Rachel. She told me that this pattern looked like a smiley face and I really didn't mean for it to look like that but it really does. So I have some really good ideas that came out of the pattern and some that I think didn't turn out the way I wanted.

Module Madness

Flowers out of plastic bag scraps
Peace

Today in class we had to bring in our 100+ pieces and I brought in two things because I couldn't make up my mind what I really wanted to do. I brought pellets and play money. I started with the pellets for the exercise and arranged them into a peace sign then my plan failed when we started planning the final project so I switched over to the play money. Here's a picture of the peace sign I made. And then here's a picture of the flowers I made with Plastic bag scraps when we switched over to rearrange someone elses 100+ pieces.

Response to Quilt and Painting

Tuesday we looked at two pieces of art work. One a quilt: my interpretations and observations on the quilt were:

  • colors
  • different patterns
  • different shapes make one big shape
  • cotton
  • symmetry
  • handstitched
  • light and dark contrast

The second piece was a painting:

  • rough
  • dark colors
  • shapes
  • different objects
  • oitl painting
  • 'still life with magic and metaphor'
  • shadows and lighting

Top 4

Yesterday in class we were critiqued on our top 16 dot sketches. Here are the 4 sketches, one from each principle, that my group picked out for me.
From left to right: closure, proximity, continuence, and similarity/difference.

Dots, Dots, and More Dots

Similarity/Difference

Proximity

Continuence

Closure

The last class we were given the project concerning dots. It is a very unique and different project to work with. This project showed me what style I use in my art: I'm very geometric. I've learned that I need to explore the more organic style.

Emmons

The first day of Art was a bit scary for me, I haven't had an art class since elementary school, I didn't know what to expect. I found out it wasn't so bad. The first project was to make a structure out of newspaper and it had to be 3 ft. tall and able to hold a cinder block. Jack and I decided to use a bit of physics for this and made a tripod-like structure and it work. After we took a good look at it, it looked like a man so we named him Emmons.
